Project Development

Our experienced team of project development professionals works closely with our clients on every phase of their projects, turning good ideas into reality while navigating the inherent pitfalls of project development along the way.

GGE Alliance partners provide turnkey commercial and industrial renewable energy project development services, including project siting, design, engineering, permitting, and project management. We manage the risks associated with commercial-scale energy project development, through careful consideration of all the constraints associated with a specific project type, on a given site, in a particular jurisdiction.

The project development process involves many parties and requires judgment and consensus-building. Our team of industry experts works collaboratively with stakeholders in order to drive projects successfully from concept to commissioning.

Asset Management

GGE Alliance partners help maximize the value of your clean energy assets, analyze system performance, minimize your downtime, and reduce your operating and maintenance costs with experienced asset management services.

Asset management consists of a complete array of activities required to maximize system longevity, optimize system uptime, and keep systems operating at peak efficiency, ensuring that your energy installation translates into the appropriate revenue stream.

Microgrids are localized grids with complex configurations of Distributed Generation (DG) and loads, typically at military bases, university campuses and industrial parks. Traditionally these grids have been viewed as having the ability to operate autonomously, or in isolation, from the electric utility grid. However, advancements in Distributed Energy Resources (DER), such as gas turbines, solar, and battery storage, have enabled smaller industrial and commercial sites to form localized grids. Regardless of the size, these microgrids have significant operational complexity, which requires utility-like control capabilities.

GGE Alliance provides state-of-the-art Measurement & Verification (M&V) services for evaluation of energy savings from microgrid projects as well as advanced, cloud-based software packages for the real-time monitoring of microgrids and the operational optimization of microgrids.

Environmental Credit Monetization

In addition to RECs, there are numerous other environmental credits that provide financial incentives to make investments in technology or operational changes associated with emission reduction. Most notably of these credits are: Emission Reduction Credits (ERC), which are created by emission reductions in EPA designated non-attainment areas, CO2 allowances, which are created by CO2 reductions in accordance with the either the California or the Northeast (Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative) compliance markets, and Renewable Identification Numbers (RIN), which are created by the development of renewable transportation fuels in accordance with the U.S. EPA.

GGE Alliance partners help owners and operators of these credit projects qualify their projects to meet requirements, certify the environmental benefits, and market the credits to buyers in the marketplace.

Clean Energy Projects

The continued rapid decline in the cost of solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays, combined with the five-year Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC), accelerated depreciation rules, and attractive RECs markets, has resulted in commercial- and industrial-scale solar projects being economically and environmentally compelling in many geographical regions and across various project types including rooftops, greenfield, brownfield and landfill sites.

GGE Alliance partners develop solar projects for industrial, commercial and institutional clients with no capital cost options and an emphasis on brownfield and landfill sites. For solar systems already in development or installed, GGE Alliance can help owners and operators qualify their plants to meet RPS requirements, certify the plant’s production to create state-approved solar RECs, and market solar RECs to buyers in the marketplace.

Data Monitoring and Reporting

GGE Alliance partners use the Green Energy Monitoring System (GEMS), an automated energy data collection and reporting system, which enables near real-time collection of fuel, electrical and thermal information and comprehensive monitoring of any complex energy system or microgrid. This cloud-based system provides data for identifying metering and operational issues, operational control, and optimum scheduling from a single microgrid to a large portfolio of buildings.

GGE Alliance partners also developed a real-time operations scheduling software for optimizing microgrids, the Distributed Energy Operating System (DEOS). The software technology is based on a Mixed-Integer-Programming (MIP) representation of all possible energy flows both inter- and intra-site on any time increment basis (e.g. hour) over any time period (e.g. 24 hours). DEOS is integrated with GEMS to provide a virtually seamless cloud-based system for monitoring, alarms, scheduling and optimizing complex energy systems and microgrids.

Renewable Energy Credits

Twenty-nine states plus the District of Colombia have established Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) that mandate electric utilities serving retail customers in their state to provide a set percentage of their electricity sales from renewable energy. While definitions and requirements vary from state to state, most standards include wind, solar, low-impact hydro, landfill gas, biomass and geothermal generation. Utilities may meet these annual obligations through generation from their own renewable plants or from purchases from other providers with renewable generation. In either case, utilities must provide RECs as verification of meeting the mandate. RECs represent the “green” environmental benefits, or attributes, of renewable energy, where one REC equals one MWh (megawatt-hour) of renewable energy. RECs may be acquired separately from the electricity, which is typically the case.

GGE Alliance partners help owners and operators of renewable generation assets qualify their plants to meet RPS requirements, certify the plant’s production to create state-approved RECs, and market RECs to buyers in the marketplace.
